- October, WorldCom Inc. opened a new Internet data center for web hosting and Internet-based e-business services in the Boston area. The 110,000-square-foot data center directly connects to WorldCom's global IP network via redundant, high-speed OC-48 and OC-192 circuits. Designed to deliver more than basic server collocation real estate, the center will host enhanced services, such as an expanded online presence for a local home video storage company and the WorldCom Emissions Management Information System (EMIS) provided to the state government. EMIS manages the data for auto emissions testing and is designed to reduce fraud related to decentralized emission testing by using system-level security locks, data redundancy and critical reporting. Other value-added services include load balancing; redundant hand-offs, Keynote web performance reporting; hardware resale; managed firewall services; and connectivity solutions such as IP VPNs, tiered and burstable bandwidth options.
