Java-ready OSS

Sun Microsystems and other members of the OSS through Java Initiative -- including Borland, Component Insights, eXcelon, MetaSolv Software, Prismtech, PwC Consulting, and TeleGea -- have released the OSS Trouble Ticket API, the first in a series of APIs designed to foster the rapid development of applications for telecommunications companies worldwide. The OSS Trouble Ticket API provides interfaces for creating, querying, updating, and deleting trouble tickets. The API will allow Java developers to build more advanced trouble ticket solutions that are integration-ready.

Cracking the OSS Nut

OSS vendor NetCracker has unveiled new facility management and integration server modules. The facility management module helps companies manage all their assets -- everything from PCs and phones to office furniture and office space. The product is targeted at enterprise companies and at telcos for internal use. Julie Wingerter, vice president of strategy, told xchange in late April that the company was in final negotiations with a telco for this product. The new integration server module handles work flow for automation. It offers the tools to integrate existing software applications -- from NetCracker or other companies like SAP or Siebel - together. These two new modules are in addition to NetCracker's existing inventory management, order management and provisioning modules. In other recent company news, NetCracker has won contracts from Sprint Corp. andoptical network operators Telepak Networks and New World Network for web-based workflow, which allows the service provider to script business rules and automate business processes.

The Host with the Most

Service providers looking for a partner to outsource hosting network management can now find a more extensive solution from InterOPS Management Services. The managed service provider monitors servers up to the application layer, looking at what quality of service is being delivered to the customer on a real time basis. The company is focused on delivering such services to financial customers like banks, brokerage firms and insurance companies, but also wholesales to data communications service providers.
