LAUNCHING VIDEO SERVICES, EVEN ON A RELATIVELY SMALL SCALE, IS NO SMALL TASK. First a service provider has to choose various home- and network-based video equipment, then it needs to install that equipment and, finally, it must get access to the content it plans to deliver to its customers and provide that content in a secure manner.

Home Town Cable recently announced plans to offer a range of video services over its FTTP network as part of a triple-play offering to more than 5,000 residents and businesses in western Ohio. But rather than grappling with all these chores itself, the overbuilder tapped Eagle Broadband Inc. and France Telecom subsidiary GlobeCast, which together offer a soup-to-nuts video solution called IPTVComplete.

“We selected IPTVComplete to deliver our video service because it offers a faster, more economical way for us to provide a high-quality entertainment bundle to our customers,” says Scott Prueter, president of Home Town Cable, which is the first announced customer of IPTVComplete. “We have been impressed with Eagle Broadband’s and GlobeCast’s broad capabilities and expertise as well as their responsiveness to our requirements. IPTVComplete greatly simplifies our video deployment and allows us to maximize our revenue opportunities while reducing our risk and time to market.”

IPTVComplete includes a combination of video content, headend infrastructure, satellite distribution and set-top boxes aimed at reducing the time and cost for broadband providers to get into video services. Eagle Broadband provides the video content and IP set-top boxes.

GlobeCast supplies the satellite distribution capabilities.
