The transition to next-generation networks is an ongoing pursuit that impacts all providers — mobile and wireline. Consultant Chris Pond, president and CEO of Network Insight, says competitors need to focus their strategy on the core of the network.

“These competitive folks have to evolve. They have to get out of TDM. They have to get into IP. Many of them are driven to it based on the applications. We are trying to pull them back and say, ‘Let’s address the core first,’” Pond says. “If we don’t have it built properly and we don’t know how to manage it well, then our applications are going to fail.”

To help competitive providers transition, Network Insight launched at COMPTEL PLUS a dedicated practice called “Next Generation Network Solutions.”

“Our approach is it doesn’t matter what the applications are, we will build a solution that will deliver those applications as they need to be delivered,” Pond says. “We focus on key elements from Layer 2 through 5 that really start to address the needs for high availability, high quality of service and control.”

Specifically, Network Insight’s Next Generation Network Solutions include carrier-class core designs that facilitate IP services such as VoIP and IPTV, implementation of softswitches and other devices to enable the delivery of VoIP and voice peering, phased network migration, technology to manage bandwidth-intensive IP traffic and create more network capacity without adding bandwidth, solutions for protecting NGN core and all IP traffic traversing the network, and engineers available for contract or hire.
