Yep, I’m Talking Tiger and Texting, Too

My colleague Cara Sievers addressed what I thought was a good reminder in her PHONE+ blog this week – don’t use your mobile devices to send and receive text messages you don’t want anyone to read.

The topic stemmed, of course, from the alleged Tiger Woods affairs and called into question the golf great’s electronic judgment, when everyone knows digital data do not disappear.

But of course, the haters had to comment. PHONE+ had no business writing about the Tiger Woods scandal, they said. The blog was off topic, they ranted.

Why? We’re a set of tech-focused publications. Since when are journalists supposed to ignore current events’ impact on their coverage areas? And perhaps more importantly, since when is the business of telecom not built on the philosophy and impact of communication?

So bring on the hate. But at least make sure there’s a decent argument behind it. The abstract emotional reactions are tiresome.
