Rose KlimovichApple continues to do well. The company this week reported a landmark quarter. In selling millions of products, the company saw record quarterly profit of $7.31 billion on revenue of $28.57 billion.

A lot of companies could learn from Apple. Apple has gone thru some rough periods but with good leadership, a good business model and a solid strategy, they are now one of the companies leading the tech industry.

Why?

  • They understand their customers and what they want. Apple devices, from the iPod to the iPhone to the iPad to the Mac, do what consumers, businesses and educational institutions need done.
  • They offer products that are easy to use, have a solid user interface and work well. This is very important to customers who are not that technical. This is the majority of users of this type of technology. People just want to buy the product, turn it on and have it work.
  • They have excellent customer support: online, on the phone and at their stores.
  • They offer a relatively simple product line with few choices. This allows them to concentrate on things like a good user interface.
  • They leverage the industry for applications that make their products more valuable. For example, there are over 90,000 applications for the iPad.

Other companies could learn from this business model.
