Prism Communication Services Inc. (www.redconnect.com), a subsidiary of Comdisco Inc., today launched its RED Voice service in the New York metropolitan area and expanded its RED high-speed Internet service to the Philadelphia market.
The company previously offered only high-speed Internet service in New York.
RED Voice delivers both voice and data services over existing copper loop infrastructure. And, because Prism has received local number portability, customers of the new service can retain their existing telephone numbers for the service.
RED high-speed Internet options include RED HomeWork, which is targeted at teleworkers; RED PowerWork, a single-user solution for home office and small to mid-sized businesses; and RED NetWork, for businesses. Bundled voice services will be added to these data offerings in the next few months.
In the future, Prism also expects to sell such services as automatic data storage and recovery from its parent company, Comdisco, as well as offer web hosting and other services for small and medium businesses.
Prism, which is building a national network, by the end of the first quarter plans to serve small and medium businesses, teleworkers and power users in 33 markets in the United States. The network employs Nortel Networks’ (www.nortelnetworks.com) traditional DMS-500 switch and DSL equipment.
