In the plans to realign its operating segments, Williams Communications (www.williamscommunications.com) said it will add a new, fourth business unit focused on broadband media. The decision to add broadband media to its business builds on the announcement earlier this month that William's Vyvx Services Group hoped to team with other providers to offer customers complete management and distribution of rich media.
Williams said that its Multi-Service Broadband Network is increasingly being used as a delivery mechanism for digital content, such as photographs, video, music and accompanying data. The new Broadband Media division will target multimedia businesses, such as advertising firms, post-production facilities, entertainment, broadcasting, healthcare and distance learning.
The new Broadband Media service will be built on IBM's (www.ibm.com) recently announced Content Manager media asset management solution. The service will be web-enabled by Ad VISUAL and the Vyvx MediaXtranet, which is a network, hosting and navigation system that will facilitate the movement of content in business-to-business media applications.
Other operating segments created by the realignment include Network, Solutions and Strategic Investments.
