AFN Names Executives, Details Growth Plan

AFN Communications (www.afncommunications.com), a provider of high-capacity broadband access in primary, secondary and tertiary markets, named the executive team that will be responsible for carrying out development of its 7,000-route mile network, which will span 13 states and Washington, D.C.

The company, which was formed by the subsidiaries of several power companies, debuted in March 2000, and hired Gordon Martin as CEO in July. AFN is now in the process of expanding its optical infrastructure, constructing 55 carrier-grade POPs and delivering optical waves, private line, collocation and local access to its customers.

New hires at AFN include a host of veterans from Williams Communications. Gary Watson, who was named COO, came from Williams, where he was vice president of service delivery and assurance. Bunker Sessions, who was vice president of technology at Williams, joins AFN as chief technology officer.

Other former Williams employees coming to AFN include Bill Hampton, who was named executive vice president of sales and marketing for AFN; J.B. Manley, who will serve as the company’s vice president of business development; David Cordeiro, who is now AFN’s vice president of strategic planning and communications; and Kathy Case, AFN’s vice president of administration.

Brian Cantrell – co-founder, director and CFO for Brighton Energy LLC – was named chief financial officer for AFN.
