New Edge Networks (www.newedgenetworks.com) is introducing high-speed dedicated Internet access in 15 metropolitan areas in the eastern U.S.

The privately held company, based in Vancouver, Wash., is using the network it acquired from AtHome Corp. to provide businesses T1 access and other high-speed capacity in such big cities as Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston and Chicago.

Last week New Edge Networks introduced dedicated Internet access in 13 large western cities stretching from Houston and Dallas to Seattle. The various forms of dedicated access include T1s, DS3 circuits through OC12s, Ethernet, fast Ethernet and gigabit Ethernet.

In February New Edge Networks announced receiving approval through a federal bankruptcy court judge to acquire AtHome’s network assets and business customers for $1.5 million. The business customers represent $18 million in annual revenue, the company said.

In to providing dedicated Internet access directly to customers through its AtHome acquisition, the service provider also is negotiating agreements with local area computer network integrators and value added resellers to serve as agents and referral partners in each of the new cities.

New Edge Networks already provides most of its digital subscriber line services through referral partners and resellers, including equipment vendors, hardware VARs and Internet service providers. The company sells most of its wide area network services through agents, said spokesman Sal Cinquegrani.

“We are aggressive in terms of establishing reseller arrangements,” he said. “It is an important part of our distribution. Economically we can’t have the hands and feet in the street in all of those metro areas as efficiently as alternative arrangements would.”

New Edge Networks employs some 300 people, including 80 individuals who support direct and indirect sales channels, Cinquegrani said.
