Access equipment vendor Zhone Technologies Inc. has acquired packet voice/data solution provider Vpacket Communications. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The move is part of Zhone’s strategy to grow through internal development and acquisition, said Jeanette Symons, Zhone’s CTO and vice president of engineering, in a press release. This transaction represents Zhone’s seventh acquisition.
Vpacket enhances Zhone’s existing product set with its IP-based Voice/Data Router - 6100 series customer premises equipment. Vpacket complements Zhone’s technology portfolio in areas of IP routing and line-side high-speed Ethernet interfaces. Vpacket’s product offerings have application at both existing accounts as well as in greenfield carrier deployments by providing the ability to combine new voice and data services, broadband access, and transport protocols over an IP-based infrastructure. Abe Wei, CEO of Vpacket, will continue with Zhone assuming the role of vice president, operations.
