Cable company equipment supplier Scientific-Atlanta Inc. has reached a definitive agreement to acquire some of the assets of the network technologies business of Arris Interactive for $37.5 million.

Assets to be acquired include analog optics, nodes, and RF products.

"This transaction extends Scientific-Atlanta's product offering and enhances our ability to offer products and services to a wider customer base," said Dwight Duke, president of Scientific-Atlanta's transmission network systems business.

"The sale of our Actives business to Scientific-Atlanta at this time allows ARRIS to now focus on our growing cable telephony and high-speed data opportunities throughout the world as well as on our industry leading Supplies & Services product category," said Bob Stanzione, ARRIS president and CEO. "We are confident that after the transaction is complete Scientific-Atlanta will continue to provide outstanding support to those customers who had purchased Active products in the past."

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year.
