Grande Communications, of San Marcos, Texas, today announced it has acquired the rights to provide Internet access and local and long-distance telephone services to commercial and residential customers of TXU Communications.

A spokesman for TXU Communications, which is a subsidiary of Pinnacle One Partners L.P., a limited partnership owned by energy conglomerate TXU Corp. and a group of investors, was not immediately available Monday for comment.

Under the terms of the agreement, Grande says it will serve commercial and multi-family accounts of the La Frontera real estate development in Round Rock, Texas; about 30 multifamily residential communities throughout Houston; and approximately 15,000 residential and commercial lines in Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Notices were distributed to TXU customers last Thursday that Grande would be their new provider, according to a Grande spokesman, who says the company has no intention to change pricing plans.

On Monday Grande also announced the purchase of a Nortel Networks DMS-500 switch in Austin to route traffic.

A privately held company, Grande is building a fiber-optic network to neighborhoods in seven cities to provide a combination of telephone, Internet and cable TV services. Grande has about 50,000 residential and business customers across Texas. It also provides network services to communications companies through its Grande Networks division.
