AT&T is getting into software sales.
The company is doing a national trial that will link Internet users with what it says is one of the world's largest digital software libraries, which it’s calling the AT&T Software Store. Digital River Inc. will supply the digital software library as well as provide order management, digital product fulfillment, and customer service and fraud prevention as part of the arrangement with AT&T.
The store, which is accessible via http://www.att.com/software, and through other AT&T online sites, offers downloads of popular software titles such as TaxCut from H&R Block, McAfee's VirusScan and Symantec's Norton AntiVirus.
Special deals are available through the AT&T Software Store. For example, customers will be able to order Norton AntiVirus 2003 with an instant $5 rebate, and mail-in rebates of $40, for final price of $4.95; Norton Internet Security 2003 is available with an
instant $10 rebate and mail in rebates of $50, for a final price of $9.95.
AT&T says this announcement is another example of its intent “to package a robust set of communications, entertainment and e-commerce services jointly with strategic partners, enabling the company to uniquely integrate and deliver new offers to its customers.”
