MCI on Wednesday appointed a right-hand man to its chairman and chief executive Michael Capellas: Richard R. Roscitt.

Roscitt, the former chairman and CEO of Minneapolis-based telecom equipment maker ADC, was named president and COO of MCI. He will oversee the core operating units of Ashburn, Va.-based MCI.

The appointment marks the latest in a series of management changes since Capellas took over the top position for the No. 2 long-distance company seven months ago in a bid to lead the phone giant out of bankruptcy.

Roscitt officially starts his new job Sept. 1 and will report directly to Capellas.

Roscitt has held the top post at ADC since 2001. Prior to managing ADC, Roscitt worked 28 years at AT&T Corp., where he ultimately served as president of AT&T Business Services.

In a related announcement, ADC has appointed Robert Switz president and CEO. Switz was the executive vice president and CFO of ADC, which posted a second-quarter net loss of $29.4 million, or four cents per share, on $192 million in sales.
