In what it says is its most significant North American customer win for fiber-to-the-home products to date, Allied Telesyn says SureWest Communications has agreed to purchase 5,000 of its RG-223 Broadband Residential Gateways and single fiber FS237 media converters.

SureWest offers voice, data, and video services in the metropolitan Sacramento, Calif., area and is rapidly installing a fiber network to deliver a triple play of services over one network.

The first of Allied Telesyn’s home gateway products for the North American market, the RG-223 Residential Gateway distributes traditional voice and multiple IP-based services throughout a home, including broadband Internet access, voice over IP, broadcast television, and video on demand. The RG-223 features two analog phone ports, three 10/100 Ethernet LAN ports, and supports IGMP for secure and efficient multicast video.
