Vonage Holdings Corp., the broadband phone company, has introduced phone services in Coldwater, Mich., in partnership with a local municipality.

Vonage, of Edison, N.J., and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities, introduced City One Voice (www.cityonevoice.com), which includes local and long-distance phone packages for homes and small businesses. The Michigan municipality said phone service rounded out the package of utilities it offers to residents, such as electric, water and cable television.

Vonage says the partnership represents the first time a utility has offered residents Internet telephone service. Vonage offers residential customers unlimited local and long-distance calling throughout the United States and Canada for $34.99 a month, but customers must have a broadband connection.
