Sprint Corp. plans to let go 2,000 employees in the quarter as part of measures the company previously announced to reduce its operating expenses by 5 to 7 percent, saving about $1 billion, over the next three years.
Sprint said employees affected would include those people in the business and consumer wireline and wireless groups, the local telephone operation, technology services and corporate staff support groups.
In September, the Overland Park, Kan., phone company announced reorganization plans, which go into effect Jan. 1. Sprint says the reorganized organization will improve its focus on serving consumers and businesses.
