NuVox and NewSouth Announce Plans to Merge

NuVox Communications Inc. and NewSouth Holdings Inc. today said they plan to merge, giving rise to a privately held company with annual sales exceeding $300 million.

The combined telecommunications provider, to be headquartered in Greenville, S.C., would serve about 36,000 business customers under the name NuVox Communications, the companies announced.

Executives from NuVox and NewSouth would make up the senior management team. NewSouth President and CEO Jim Akerhielm would manage the combined company as CEO. NuVox Chairman and CEO David Solomon would fulfill the role as chairman of the new company.

NuVox, of St. Louis, Mo., and Greenville-based NewSouth expect the merger to close by May. It is subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals and other closing conditions.
