The CompTel/ASCENT Alliance’s President and COO Walter G. Blackwell has resigned. His departure was a mutual decision and had been planned since the merger of the Association of Communications Enterprises (ASCENT) and the Competitive Telecommunications Association (CompTel) last year.

Blackwell served as president of ASCENT and, along with CompTel President H. Russell Frisby Jr., navigated the merger of the two trade associations. The board of directors of the CompTel/ASCENT Alliance had asked Blackwell to stay on to ensure a smooth transition.

“Having successfully accomplished what I set out to do – to build one voice for the competitive industry – it is now an appropriate time for me to move on to other opportunities,” Blackwell says.

“The merger of ASCENT and CompTel has been an unparalleled success due in large part to Walt’s efforts, and we thank him for his service to the Alliance and the industry,” says CompTel/ASCENT Alliance Chairman J. Sherman Henderson III.
