ARRIS, a maker of cable-modem transmission systems and other gear for cable companies, has agreed to distribute Colubris Networks Inc.’s Wi-Fi access equipment through its business unit ARRIS TeleWire.
Colubris Networks makes wireless LAN equipment for businesses and public venues like shopping malls and restaurants to support broadband access.
Under the partnership, ARRIS can give cable companies the ability to introduce wireless Internet hotspots at public places and offer their business customers wireless high-speed Internet service over a local network.
Time Warner Cable-Houston has deployed the ARRIS TeleWire Supply and Colubris Network solution, according to the companies. Carl Blume, director of product marketing with Colubris Networks, says Time Warner Cable is providing wireless Internet access at some automobile dealerships and plans to offer wireless LAN service to businesses using the equipment.
