Bright House Networks has deployed Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.’s FLASHWAVE 7500 DWDM platform for cable television systems in and around Tampa Bay and Central Florida.
With more than 2 million subscribers, Bright House will use the system to transport video on demand, high-definition TV, broadcast video, digital telephony and high-speed data over a single core network.
A centralized VOD architecture requires a huge number of gigabit Ethernet signals to be transported from the core to the edge of a cable operators network. The eight-to-one (8:1) multiplexed gigabit Ethernet optical line cards of the FLASHWAVE 7500 platform, which are being deployed today, accommodate this requirement.
Bright House will also be using a new tool for local management of FLASHWAVE 7500 nodes that expedites initial turn-up and remote provisioning. Step-by-step graphical interfaces on the system guide network operators through service provisioning, software download and fiber cabling, to allow a single technician to perform the same tasks that ordinarily require an entire team.
