NewStep Networks has introduced the Calling Service Node (CSN), a foundation for transitioning TDM-based services to IP that lets service providers deliver IP applications to users on any standard device, across any type of mobile or fixed network.
NewStep also announced it soon will roll out Office Anywhere, an IP-based, network-agnostic solution that extends enterprise calling networks to mobile and remote users.
The CSN connects to legacy and next-generation signaling systems via SS7 or SIP signaling protocols, creating a service control layer between IP-based applications and the underlying signaling systems within service provider and enterprise networks. Thus, service control and management decouple from voice transport within TDM and IP, so operators can avoid a forklift replacement of infrastructure to support IP.
The CSN insulates applications from the technical details of the underlying networks. In circuit-switched networks, this eliminates the need to reprogram central office switches or introduce media gateways when adding IP services. In pure IP networks, the CSN enables service providers to offer a common set of service bundles across diverse network infrastructures.
The CSN’s service control layer also interconnects carrier IP telephony services with enterprise IT applications, creating a unified usage pathway through which end users on and off the enterprise network can access IP service bundles such as voice mail, e-mail, instant messaging, conferencing and other collaborative applications.
“Over the last five years, widespread IP service adoption has been held captive by both the fiscal and technical constraints of IP [to] TDM interworking,” says Neil Baimel, CEO at NewStep. “Today, this adoption model changes. Our patented service control innovation lets service providers bring the benefits of IP telephony to all networks with minimal capital investment. For enterprises, this translates into economic gains from sharply reduced toll charges, heightened staff and services productivity, and cross-network application support. For the carrier, the CSN enables tremendous service innovation, profit potential and the evolution of customer-optimized, loyalty-inducing services and features.”
The company has announced Bell Canada as a customer. The carrier will use the CSN to bring IP to its toll-free call center application.
