Ciena Corp. (Booth 401) is showcasing its end-to-end portfolio in an IPTV demonstration at TELECOM '04 this week.

The IPTV demo features partners and showcases the new CN 4350 IP switch Ciena acquired through Internet Photonics and its broadband access equipment, the CN 1000 and CNX 100, says Gary Bolton, vice president of product marketing for the broadband group. The demo also highlights the gigE interface to the CN 1000, which Ciena is introducing this week, and the DN 7050 multiservice switch it acquired from WaveSmith as well as the ST200 BRAS it OEMs from Laurel Networks.

The CN 4350 is part of the CN 4300 Managed Optical Services Switch series of operator-class multiservice transport and switching platform that integrates aggregation, cross-connect functions, and WDM capabilities to enable a diverse range of metro service offerings, including Ethernet, storage and SONET/SDH transport.

The CN 1000 Broadband Loop Carrier is a high-density broadband access system that delivers integrated voice, data and video services. It provides POTS, DSL and packet voice capability on every line, enabling carriers to software-provision these services to any subscriber remotely, without manual intervention. It also integrates the functions of a next-generation DLC, a video-enabled DSLAM, a fiber multiplexer and a packet-ready media gateway.

The CNX 100 is a small, modular BLC that enables carriers to selectively add DSL, POTS+DSL and video capabilities to their installed base of narrowband DLCs. Ciena began shipping the product in September.

"The CNX 100 is an agile access product," says Bolton. It overlays DLCs and grows in four-port increments. One box supports 96 subscribers. You can ring together 15 to grow to nearly 1,500 lines." Bolton says the CNX 100 uses are DSL overlay initially. IPTV functionality will be supported beginning in 2005, and POTS small remote ADSL functionality is slated for mid-2005.

As for the DN 7000 Series Product Family, it offers service switching capabilities for various applications, from data-aware access networks to the traditional edge of the core. It delivers native frame relay, ATM, Ethernet, circuit emulation services and MPLS functionality.

The Laurel Networks ST200 Service Edge Router combines Internet-class routing, multiservice support, broadband subscriber management, integrated service management, and the flexibility to support current and evolving service provider requirements.
