Network Equipment Technologies Inc., which does business as net.com, has made available for commercial shipment the latest version of the SCREAM platform, an integrated ATM switch, IP-edge router and broadband remote access server running the Cisco Systems IOS-based routing engine.

SCREAM 3.1 includes improvements in three areas:
First, net.com is improving multicast capabilities by supporting IP multicast to allow for the delivery of video services over broadband networks.

Second, net.com reports being able to provide MPLS-based tag switching and layer 3 MPLS VPNs. Because the MPLS functionality is based on Cisco IOS, SCREAM is compatible with most MPLS deployments in the industry today, according to the company.

In addition to the IP multicast and the MPLS capabilities, net.com has added features to SCREAM to increase security. The improvements range from multiple password management features to enhanced administrative control over users.
