VeriSign Inc. on Monday announced a solution for service providers to interconnect VoIP networks at various enterprise locations.

Carriers can use the IP Connect suite of services to deliver such features as point-to-point video between enterprises, VeriSign announced at the VON Fall 2004 Conference & Expo in Boston.

“VeriSign is providing a missing piece of the VoIP puzzle. This service allows islands of IP traffic to be connected end to end using IP,” Vernon Irvin, executive vice president of VeriSign Communications Services, said in a statement. “As more enterprises demand IP services, VeriSign allows service providers to offer innovative solutions, including video, messaging, and collaboration.”

VeriSign also announced Internap Network Services Corp. will use the VeriSign service to interconnect its various locations, which use the Cisco CallManager Express IP telephony system.

“The VeriSign solution will help us reduce our overall communications cost and provide the foundation for a new set of services, including video and collaboration applications,” says Internap Chief Marketing Officer David Abrahamson.
