BelAir Networks this week at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment in San Francisco announced three new customers of its BelAir200 long-reach Wi-Fi infrastructure equipment.

Telecom Ottawa is using 20 BelAir units to provide wide area Wi-Fi to the downtown area of Ottawa. The carrier increased its deployment from two to 20 BelAir200 units. Mounted on utility poles and private establishments, the majority of the units provide Wi-Fi access to a seven block region of the downtown area, including hotels and high-rise apartment buildings.

Meanwhile, service providers Super Net and V Link Solutions are using BelAir equipment in a power line communications and broadband Wi-Fi network for the residential and business communities adjacent to Louisiana State University. The deployment delivers high-speed Internet access over two square miles of open areas and buildings around LSU including 2,200 apartment units that are currently under-served by broadband providers.

In a third deployment, Fort Meyers Airport is using two BelAir200s to offer complete coverage of existing passenger terminals. Six additional BelAir200 units will cover the construction site of a new terminal the airport is building; that network infrastructure will initially be used to serve construction workers on the site, and after the building is complete will be used to provide Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers, the airlines and possibly airport vendors.

BelAir200 access radio modules use the 2.4GHz band to support Wi-Fi client access. Separate backhaul radio modules use 5GHz for the point-to-point links that form the wireless backhaul mesh that interconnects all of the BelAir200 nodes. Each BellAir200 offers coverage within a 500-meter radius in a 90-degree wedge.
