Kasenna is announcing news about what it says is the world’s largest IPTV deployment. The announcement comes this week at TelcoTV in Orlando.
The vendor, which got its start in 1994 as a unit of Silicon Graphics but spun out as a separate entity in 2000, delivers an “end-to-end” IPTV solution called TotalTV. TotalTV includes video distribution and delivery services, encryption and various related tools, explains Tripp Rea, executive vice president, who XCHANGE interviewed at this fall’s USTA TELECOM ’04 show in Las Vegas.
Kasenna’s ViewNow business – acquired by buying a company of the same name – includes content and lets carriers view usage of that content by customer, studio, price, genre, date and more. ViewTrak, which is part of the ViewNow suite of service provider offerings, allows carriers to monitor and study customer use of video on demand and local content.
ViewNow also includes marketing support for carriers preparing to deliver new video services. Support includes billing inserts that carriers can customize. Insert examples include coupons for free video on demand rental; video clip promotions; and newspaper ads.
The company also offers an application called LivingRoom, which lets service providers provision and design broadcast and on-demand video services. All of Kasenna’s APIs are Java script and SOAP XML, so service providers can set up interfaces themselves, or have Kasenna or a third party do it for them.
TimelessTV is Kasenna’s network-based PVR platform. New this year, TimelessTV lets service providers choose which channels will offer PVR functionality, and it doesn’t require the service provider to use $500 set-top boxes.
Kasenna gets its encryption software from Secure Media. The solution encrypts the video as soon as Kasenna gets it from the studio and doesn’t decrypt it until it reaches the set-top boxes.
