Occam Networks Inc., supplier of Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment, this week demonstrated technology that transforms an existing home TV coaxial cable into a high-speed, IPTV-ready digital entertainment network. To offer the so-called TVNet technology, Occam has partnered with Coaxys Inc., a manufacturer of networking and distribution solutions using standard coaxial cable.

“Distributing a digital video signal inside a home has been the biggest technical challenge and one of the most costly components for telcos who want to deliver video services to their subscribers,” says Russ Sharer, vice president of sales and marketing for Occam. “TVNet reduces IPTV costs by at least 10 percent per subscriber.”

Instead of requiring a home to be rewired, TVNet distributes an Ethernet signal across an existing multipoint coaxial network, including a network with splitters.

The companies demonstrated TVNet at TelcoTV in Orlando.
