Progress Telecom LLC has purchased technology from Covaro Networks Inc. to turn its legacy SONET networks into Etherjack-enabled Ethernet services networks.
Progress Telecom will use the Covaro platform to extend its 10G native Ethernet backbone to every PoP on the network. The Etherjack technology promises to extend Covaro’s reach to new carrier facilities and enterprise locations using copper, SONET, fiber and EoDS3 transport methods.
"Progress Telecom will be able to offer carrier-grade SLAs to wholesale and retail Ethernet customers," says Fred Ellefson, Covaro’s vice president of marketing. Covaro says its Etherjack capabilities will allow Progress Telecom to manage its Ethernet services remotely, similar to traditional frame relay or private line data offerings.
Etherjack technology includes a service user network interface based on Metro Ethernet Forum guidelines. For operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning, the Etherjack technology is built on Ethernet-in-the-first-mile parameters. The combination of the two capabilities enables functionality such as performance monitoring, remote loopback, integrated test pattern generation and more.
