Vonage Holdings Corp. and Linksys, a division of Cisco Systems Inc., have announced the availability of a wireless router that will be bundled with Vonage’s Internet phone service.
The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router will be available at retail locations across the country, including Best Buy, RadioShack, Office Depot and Staples, Vonage and Linksys announced. The router includes an access point to enable wireless broadband connectivity, a switch to connect wired Ethernet devices, a function to allow the entire network to share a cable modem or DSL connection and two standard phone jacks.
The product supports Vonage’s plan to develop a phone that will allow consumers to talk over a wireless network, a company representative said. Vonage aims to release the Wi-Fi phone in the next few months.
