Broadband wireless equipment vendor Alvarion Ltd. this week laid out its schedule to deliver a mobile WiMAX system.
The company revealed at the Wireless Communications Association Symposium in San Jose, Calif., that it is developing a mobile WiMAX solution based on the 802.16e IEEE standard and expects to have the first demonstration system ready within a year.
The target launch in 2006 is intended to coincide with the availability of WiMAX-enabled devices such as laptops and PDAs. “We’re matching this up on when Intel says it will have mobile devices,” says Carlton O’Neal, vice president of marketing for Alvarion.
