MCI Inc. said today it is expanding its Internet Broadband portfolio to include high-speed cable access. Using its partnership with New Edge Networks, MCI estimates it will be able to reach 90 percent of all U.S. business locations with its DSL and Internet Cable Services.
The carrier’s cable offering targets businesses such as retailers and services companies, as well as teleworkers and organizations with multiple locations that need cost-effective, “always on” Internet connectivity, MCI says.
Through New Edge Networks, MCI is making available asymmetric cable service from Charter, Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable. MCI’s cable service offers speeds of 768kpbs and greater for information received, and speeds of 256kbps and higher for information sent.
MCI says its customers now can supplement DSL and other forms of Internet access such as satellite and Wi-Fi with its Internet Cable service, which reaches areas where DSL is not available or where customers prefer cable access.
