Shaw Cablesystems G.P., one of Canada’s largest multi-system cable operators, has deployed multimedia technologies from Nortel Networks Corp., providing more services to Shaw’s residential broadband customers across Western Canada.
Shaw’s network includes Nortel’s Multimedia Communication Server (MCS) 5200, a platform that enables enhanced communications regardless of location, access type or media. The technology is based on SIP and supports desktop video calling, voice call management, instant messaging, collaboration tools and more.
Shaw says it plans to offer these services with its high-speed Internet service; the company claims to be the first cable operator in Canada to offer SIP-based multimedia services.
