Verizon Communications Inc. and Yahoo! Inc. said today they have signed a multiyear deal to deliver co-branded broadband to subscribers of Verizon Online's DSL and new fiber-based Fios Internet services. The joint aim is to increase broadband use, winning over cable broadband users. Consumers will not pay extra for the service.
Beginning this summer, customers will have the choice of Yahoo! in addition to the portal service Verizon now offers; Verizon's existing subscribers will have the option of switching to the Verizon Yahoo! service. Subscribers will need only one user name and password to access their accounts.
The service will include Yahoo!'s customized browsing environment; a personalized homepage with access to more than 150,000 content sources from across the Web; e-mail with spam protection and 2GB of storage with access to Verizon Online e-mail accounts; safety and security tools; digital photos tools; and more.
Yahoo! will receive monthly per-subscriber fees as a result of the deal, while Verizon Online will share in revenue from premium services subscriptions, searches and advertising.
Verizon is the largest phone company in the United States.
