BellSouth Corp. has asked Alcatel to supply IP DSLAMs over the next three years as the United States’ third largest local phone company transforms its network into one that accommodates triple-play services. Redback Networks Inc. also is providing its SmartEdge 800 Service Gateway as part of BellSouth’s rollout.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Alcatel will provide two products from its Intelligent Services Access Manager line – the 7330 and 7302. BellSouth says it will use the equipment to test advances in bonded ADSL2+ technologies, giving customers triple-play services at rates up to 24mbps per household over its network.
Alcatel’s 7330 Fiber to the Node Intelligent Services Access Manager is a small, remote IP DSLAM that lets service providers offer IPTV over copper. The Alcatel 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager is an IP platform for services such as video on demand and HDTV.
Redback’s gateway, meanwhile, is an integrated platform that targets VPNs, broadband aggregation, edge routing, content delivery, service insertion and prioritized traffic applications.
