Lucent Technologies plans to integrate software from Openera and Xten Networks into its IP Multimedia Subsystem so service providers can deliver VoIP and other so-called lifestyle services to mobile phones, PDAs and PCs.

Openera will supply its downloadable Mobile IMS Client, which delivers IMS-based multimedia services including Active Phone Book, push-to-talk and video sharing on mobile phones. Xten Networks, meanwhile, will provide its downloadable X-PRO SIP "softphone" application, which simulates the features and functionality of a small business phone system and enables VoIP services on wireline or wireless broadband connections for PC and Pocket PC devices.

"By incorporating these solutions from Openera and Xten Networks into our Accelerate Next Generation Communications Solutions portfolio … service providers will be able to offer their subscribers exciting new services on a plethora of popular devices,” says John Leonard, vice president of offer management for Lucent's Mobility Solutions Group.
