SBC Services Inc., a subsidiary of SBC Communications Inc., and Tekelec have signed a five-year contract for SBC to use Tekelec's EAGLE 5 Signaling Application System as part of the SBC companies' signaling network.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tekelec’s EAGLE 5 SAS is a multiprotocol advanced signaling system. It hosts a variety of applications including: SS7 signal transfer, number portability, signaling gateway, integrated services and data acquisition. The system supports Sigtran’s signaling protocols for next-generation network connectivity, enabling a transition to packet telephony and 3G networks.
SBC says it plans to activate approximately 20 EAGLE SANS systems over the next three to five years, because it needs to handle increasing amounts of LNP traffic. Tekelec’s Professional Services division will help install the equipment.
