Packet8, the broadband telephone and video phone services offered by 8x8 Inc., is being offered via the Walmart.com Web site, a division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and over Shop at Home Television.
On Walmart.com the offer features the Packet8 Broadband Phone Adapter and the Packet8 broadband consumer VideoPhone plus mail-in rebate promotions. Customers receive a $60 rebate on purchases of the Broadband Phone Adapter and a $250 rebate on the VideoPhone. “This is indicative of the transfer of VoIP to the mainstream,” says a Packet8 spokesperson. The company addition of Packet8 to the Web site opens the possibility of sales through the Wal-Mart stores.
The Shop at Home Network, a nationally televised home-shopping service of Shop at Home LLC, is featuring the Packet8 residential phone service in 15-minute segments that explain Internet calling and the Packet8 service. Viewers can purchase the service with a $60 mail-in rebate on the adapter and a $30 activation fee rebate. In addition to the Shop at Home television airings, Packet8 offerings also are available on the network's Web site, www.shopathometv.com.
