Broadband wireless equipment vendor Alvarion Ltd. said today that mobile operator O2 plc and Siemens have completed successfully a test of Alvarion’s BreezeMAX 3500, a WiMAX-ready solution. The trial run – which covered a four-month span and recently ended – provided broadband services to households and small businesses in Donegal, Ireland.
“After trialing Alvarion’s WiMAX-ready system, we found its technology interesting as a natural extension to the wireless LAN hotspots we have deployed across Ireland to date,” says Orlagh Nevin, head of business services for O2 Ireland. “Having conducted trials on a number of technologies, the results from the trial in [Ireland] … showed that WiMAX was a viable solution for delivering broadband services to the rural areas of [the country].”
BreezeMAX is a third-generation OFDM platform with advanced NLOS functionality, is designed so operators can offer broadband IP voice and data services.
