BellSouth Corp. on Wednesday announced a wholesale service for IP phone providers that will allow them to deliver directory assistance to customers in BellSouth’s nine-state territory without having to convert the traffic to the traditional phone language: TDM.

Rex Adams, president of BellSouth Interconnection Services, says VoIP providers can “realize significant transport and backhaul savings” by using the “Voice over Internet Protocol Conversion Service.”

VoIP providers previously had to convert the traffic to TDM to connect to BellSouth’s directory assistance platform. Now, Atlanta-based BellSouth is handling the conversion.
