Cisco Systems Inc., a major player in Wi-Fi and networking, yesterday at Interop introduced the Cisco 2700 Series Wireless Location Appliance, which tracks thousands of IEEE 802.11-enabled wireless clients from within a customer's existing WLAN infrastructure.
The Cisco 2700 Series Wireless Location Appliance uses the radio frequency fingerprinting capabilities of the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to locate authorized or unauthorized 802.11-enabled devices to within a few meters. The location of each device is graphically displayed on floor plans within Cisco WCS, enabling network administrators to determine each device's physical location.
The Cisco Wireless Location Appliance comes equipped with an Application Programming Interface (API), used for integration with external software applications.
The Cisco 2700 Series Wireless Location Appliance has a U.S. list price of $14,995 and is scheduled to ship in June.
