Ciena Corp., the telecommunications equipment supplier, on Thursday announced the extension of an optical transmission system to support metropolitan and regional core networks with moderate capacity and distance requirements.
Ideal for metro and regional optical transport applications, customers using “CoreStream Regional” only pay for capacity they need, according to Linthicum, Md.-based Ciena. The technology features transport modules that can support SONET, SDH, OTN and Ethernet interfaces as well as programmable optical add/drop multiplexing.
CoreStream Regional will be generally available in July.
