Optical Solutions Inc. at SUPERCOMM said it has started shipping its enhanced GPON platform, the FiberPath 590 OLT+. The first carrier to receive the technology is Silver Star Communications of Freedom, Wyo.
The new platform, unveiled earlier this year, allows carriers to migrate legacy networks to an all-fiber, all-IP GPON network. Silver Star Communications says the platform will allow it to deliver voice, high-speed data and IPTV services to as many as 1,500 residents by the end of the year.
The FiberPath 590 OLT+ is Optical Solutions’ first environmentally hardened platform with integrated transport for remote applications. Carriers can install a 590 OLT+ up to 52 miles from the central office.
