Terawave Communications on Friday said it will unveil at SUPERCOMM its new GPON converged broadband access platform for the delivery of voice, video and data services to consumers, businesses and government entities.

The new GPON product family includes a small footprint optical line terminal that can simultaneously aggregate and groom the traffic of several PONs onto the core IP and TDM networks, according to the company. Also included is a family of optical networking units tailored to support residential and business users.

"Our new GPON platform has been developed according to the latest ITU-T G.984 GPON standard, and significantly increases the available bandwidth per subscriber to facilitate the delivery of voice, video and data services for residential and business customers," Terawave Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Frank Lockwood said in a press release. "Service providers now have the tools they have been looking for to build a cost-effective, carrier class IP network that ensures convergence of new services while still supporting old legacy services on the same platform."
