Bezeq, the Israel Telecommunication Corp. incumbent, is using Alvarion Ltd.’s BreezeMAX 3500 to provide broadband in the southern Israeli city of Rahat, located in the Negev desert.
The deployment is part of a WiMAX pilot project. The system operates in the 3.5 GHz range and initially is serving public institutions, such as schools and medical facilities. Meanwhile, Bezeq is working to extend the network to other communities in southern Israel.
BreezeMAX is Alvarion’s WiMAX-ready platform that uses OFDM technology for advanced non-line-of-sight functionality so operators can offer broadband services over a large area.
