Peer-to-peer pioneers Skype Technologies SA released Skype Windows version 1.4 today, with Wi-Fi compatibility and a new feature called Personalise Skype.

The function takes a page from the mobile industry, letting its 55 million users deploy pictures, avatars, sounds and ringtones when they call.

Personalise Skype, a premium service, is partnered with American Greetings, Qpass Inc.’s content delivery platform, and Wee World, and starts at $1.20.

Other Skype enhancements include a free call-forwarding feature; improved instant messaging setup; group chats; conference calls; file transfers and voice mail.

Qpass will manage the service from content aggregation to billing.
