Telcordia Technologies Inc. today announced the Maestro IMS portfolio, a new set of IMS products that will focus not on basic IMS networking and connectivity, but on the wide range of IMS applications and services providers can use to differentiate their services.

According to Telcordia, the Maestro IMS Portfolio lets carriers offer services over any network using any device. Among the new products in the portfolio are the Telcordia Converged Application Server, Telcordia Converged Real-Time Charging, Telcordia Subscriber Data Solutions and the HLR/HSS/EIR(Home Location Register/Home Subscriber Server/Equipment Identity Register)

The portfolio also adapts or takes advantage of existing Telcordia products, some of which are already widely deployed, such as Telcordia Service Director.

“All telecom operators are evolving toward IMS networks,” says Scott Erickson, president of IMS Service Delivery Solutions for Telcordia. Moving toward IMS, service providers “are taking different paths,” he says. “We haven’t seen an RFQ yet that says, ‘Give me an IMS system.’ Operators looking at how to evolve their networks, looking at different components.”

The focus on applications and services is because “We believe IMS is targeted at putting the true value of the network away from the infrastructure and on services,” says Erickson. “Some competitors are looking to bring it back to the network layer, but we think customers want to move higher to the services layer.”

Although Telcordia has focused on OSS in the past, says Erickson, “we are evolving and more than half of our revenue is now coming from new products and services, particularly in the area of convergence for wireless and wireline networks.”
