Wall Street was again abuzz with rumors that Vonage Holdings Corp., operator of the Vonage America consumer VoIP service, is about to declare that it is going public.

A story in the Wall Street Journal speculated that the IPO is imminent and that the company could garner at least $600 million from an IPO. It said further that Citigroup, UBS, Deutsche Bank and Bear Stearns had been chosen to manage the offering.

Representatives of Vonage and the financial firms declined to comment.

It appears possible that Vonage is mulling an IPO, a step taken by many companies that have experienced the kind of success the consumer service has seen in the last year. Its subscriber numbers recently topped 1 million customers, and the company is sometimes described in the press as the “poster child” for VoIP.

Vonage recently has expanded its service to the United Kingdom.
