Cingular Wireless said today it has awarded Lucent Technologies a four-year contract to provide an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-based solution so Cingular can launch personalized voice, video, data and multimedia services.
Initially, Cingular is deploying the Lucent Session Manager, including the service broker function, and the Lucent Unified Subscriber Data Server. Under the agreement, Cingular will have the option to install other products and applications.
“Lucent’s IMS-based architecture, combined with our 3G UMTS/HSDPA network, will allow us to offer our customers new and exciting end-user experiences over one of the most advanced, reliable and secure networks in North America,” says Kelly Williams, executive director of strategy and planning for Cingular. “The IMS platform also provides Cingular with a cost-effective process for delivering these new features and services.”
